Southwest

Mountain Region

Fresh-water fish farming is an important industry, as this region is especially renowned for its shrimp production. Coffee and citrus fruits are also cultivated and the San Sebastián fruit and vegetable market is famous for its quality fresh produce.

Northeast

This region, where the sugarcane industry once reigned, is now known for its dairy products, including local "artisan" cheeses. Other produce include cassava, taro, citrus fruit, and coffee.
